Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Psalm 37:4-6

I bought Genevieve some of the Seeds Family Worship cds and they are really nice.  They have put Bible verses to music, but they sound more contemporary- something the entire family can enjoy listening to it. I just love the idea of having God’s word being instilled in our hearts through music.

Yesterday I was listening to these verses and I felt God really speaking to my heart. If we can find our joy and fulfillment in the Lord, it will change the way we live. As we seek Him to be our all, the things that we desire will be the things of God! And why wouldn’t He want to give us those wants? Our hearts will desire to glorify our Maker and to honor the King of Kings!

Yet, true to God’s nature, He says that if we do this He will take care of us, of our reputation. We need not worry about anything but submitting our lives to Him. He will take care of the rest. What a freeing truth, if we could only grasp it.

I just wanted to share a little something that happened this evening. Genevieve and I were visiting with Jean Marie and Aunt Jeri. While Aunt Jeri was in the kitchen preparing food, Jean Marie was standing at the doorway, asking to be picked up. She was starting to get a little upset, so I told Genevieve to go over and cheer up her cousin.

Genevieve walked up to Jean Marie and started to give her kisses! I just thought that was so sweet-at such a young age to understand compassion and to know that kissing Jean Marie would cheer her up.  What a precious moment that was!

Potato Peeling Broth

I’m sick. John has been sick for the past 2 weeks, but it never occurred to me that he might so generously pass that illness onto me. But alas, he has. It started out small but yesterday and today this cold has hit me hard.

So today I finally started fighting back. I swallowed some garlic and I made a broth that I found in Prescription for Nutritional Healing. I will update as to my results from the broth, but here is the recipe.

Potato Peeling Broth

3 potatoes

1 carrot, sliced

1 celery stalk, sliced

2 quarts steam-distilled water

1 onion, sliced and/or 3 cloves garlic

1. Scrub the potatoes well and cut out any eyes.

2. Cut the potatoes in half. Cut the peel from the potatoes, making sure to keep about 1/2 inch of potato with the peel.

3. Place the potato peelings, carrot, and celery in a large pot. Cover with the water. Add the onion and/or garlic and boil for about 30 minutes.

4. Cool the broth. Strain out and discard the vegetables.

It is suggested to drink this broth twice a day, making a fresh batch each day.

There was my broth while I was cooking it and then after I strained it- ready for consumption. The taste of the broth was OK. It was tolerable. I only had it once so far today. As soon as I finish writing this I am going to have some more.

In the past I have had great success with making tea from fresh ginger and lemon. I have even thrown some garlic in, but that didn’t taste too good! I didn’t have any ginger on hand today though, hence the alternative broth.  Hope it works!!

It is Wednesday, 2 days later, and I feel 100% better. Really! Was it the broth? I have no idea! It probably helped that I finally went out today after being stuck in the house for a few days and the weather was beautiful. (and by beautiful I mean that it was over 40!) So, this was not at all scientific, but the next time I am sick I will definitely give this broth another try.

Roast Chicken

I love Ina Garten.

I really do. I love watching her cook. I love watching her entertain. And I have absolutely loved every recipe of hers that I have tried. Hearing about celebrities breaking up is so commonplace these days, but I have to say that if I ever found out that Ina and Jeffrey had called it quits I would be devastated. Those two are just so cute together.

If you watch Barefoot Contessa, you know that Jeffrey’s favorite Friday night dinner is roast chicken. So when I was looking for a recipe for roast chicken I went straight to Ina. (We are on a first name basis.) Her recipe is called Perfect Roast Chicken and it really was… perfect and roast chicken that is.

I made it last week and it was so good that I decided to make it again tonight. John said that it was the kind of meal that he would like to have once a week. I totally agree! The chicken was so juicy and the skin crispy. The garlic, lemon and thyme gave the gravy such delicious flavor. The carrots, onion and fennel were the perfect side. I just wanted to thank Ina.  And Ina, if you ever want to invite me over for lunch, I will be there!

It seems like a very large portion of my life has to do with food! Planning and preparing three meals a day takes a lot of time. I guess that is why when I uploaded the most recent pictures from my camera almost all of them were of food or us eating!!

There was this picture of the coconut flan that Genevieve and I made today:

It was delicious, by the way, and sooooo easy. (only 6 ingredients) We had it for dessert tonight. John now knows that he likes flan!

Then there was this picture of the also delicious, but not so easy, lasagna that we had earlier this week. (more like 600 ingredients)

But my favorites were the ones of Genevieve and Jean Marie eating some brown rice pasta with tomato and roasted acorn squash sauce. We caught them doing the same move!

Just Because

This picture was taken when Genevieve had just turned a year old. I just saw it saved on the desktop here and I had to post it. Isn’t it precious? I just love her perfect technique and how serious she looks! We used this for the Music Academy Christmas card this year. It just seemed so perfect!

Looking at this picture makes me realize how much Genevieve has changed in just two months! It really is amazing!

She is holding her awesome ukelele, handmade by guitar builder Cristian Mirabella.   It is designed to look like her daddy’s D’Angelico guitar.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We started out the day with a special Valentine’s Day breakfast-  Chocolate and strawberry stuffed french toast.

Genevieve helped make it- but she enjoyed eating the chocolate chips more than putting them on the bread! It is so nice to be able to include her more and more in my daily activities. The other day Genevieve helped me as I folded laundry by separating all of the socks. (her favorite!) This morning Genevieve assembled her french toast with  me. That was a lot of fun- but not as fun as eating it was! It was quite yummy. Genevieve thought so too.

We stayed home for the rest of the day and John came home in time for dinner. He brought his two sweethearts Godiva chocolate and beautiful roses. Mine was an assortment of all dark chocolate- heavenly!

Then we all spent the evening together. It was great- except for the part where I tripped over the baby gate and went sprawling across the kitchen floor. I screamed so loudly that James came running downstairs to see what happened. My knee is still hurting, especially when I bend it.

It is nothing that some Breyer’s cookies and cream ice cream can’t cure- which is what John and I are about to enjoy, so I better go now. Happy Valentine’s Day!

More Nice Weather!

And by nice I mean anything above 50 degrees! (I will take 40s too- just no more snow!)

So what have we been doing to enjoy this nice weather? We’ve gone to the park…

And to the aquarium:

We got to see some animals up close and we watched a walrus eat his lunch.

So Cute!

Why is Genevieve sitting so still and with such a big smile? Because she is looking at herself in the mirror! She just couldn’t get enough of seeing her reflection in her little turban.

I understand why- I can’t stop looking at her either!
