We have been on many walks with Genevieve and so far they have consisted of us pushing her in her stroller or carrying her in the Bjorn or the sling. Well, today that all changed. Genevieve went for her very first walk… in which she did the walking!
I had been dreaming about the heat wave that we were supposed to experience today all week long… ahhhhhh, 50 degrees. I even though about digging out my summer clothes (which coincidentally I only put away last week… no wonder I had been having so much trouble finding anything to wear!)
So John and I decided to go to the park for a nice walk. I thought about bringing food with us and having a little picnic there, but of course I was not prepared for that. Anyway, we arrived at the park and I asked John if he was going to bring his vest. (I mean this was a heat wave after all!) Luckily he brought it because as we started out on our nice little stroll we realized it was FREEZING! The wind was blowing so hard and we were cold. I mean really cold. So cold that after Genevieve spent 30 seconds on the swings and we walked about 10 feet we decided to turn around and head back to the car.
Just like that it was over. The day I had been waiting for all week long. John’s one day off this week. (well not really since he was at work all morning) The one chance we would get to enjoy the great outdoors…. oh well. All that was left to do was complain about how badly my ears were hurting from the cold wind blowing in them.
However, when we arrived home and stepped outside the car the sun was shining and it felt pretty nice out! So John, Genevieve and I took a walk- around our block. And that is where it all began. Genevieve’s first walk in which she actually did the walking!
I must have said “Genevieve, please hold mommy’s hand” about a gazillion times, but we made it. John was walking in front of us and Genevieve’s little legs were moving so fast to try to catch up to him. Then she saw her shadow on the ground and she kept trying to step on it. That was really cute.
This just makes me realize that Genevieve is getting older. At times that can be a sad thing… I do love all things baby, but it does have its perks:
We can now say that we have live-in help! Genevieve’s newest fascination is vacuuming- John taught her how to use the Dustbuster. I don’t mind that at all!
