I’m sick. John has been sick for the past 2 weeks, but it never occurred to me that he might so generously pass that illness onto me. But alas, he has. It started out small but yesterday and today this cold has hit me hard.
So today I finally started fighting back. I swallowed some garlic and I made a broth that I found in Prescription for Nutritional Healing. I will update as to my results from the broth, but here is the recipe.
Potato Peeling Broth
1 carrot, sliced
1 celery stalk, sliced
2 quarts steam-distilled water
1 onion, sliced and/or 3 cloves garlic
1. Scrub the potatoes well and cut out any eyes.
2. Cut the potatoes in half. Cut the peel from the potatoes, making sure to keep about 1/2 inch of potato with the peel.
3. Place the potato peelings, carrot, and celery in a large pot. Cover with the water. Add the onion and/or garlic and boil for about 30 minutes.
4. Cool the broth. Strain out and discard the vegetables.
It is suggested to drink this broth twice a day, making a fresh batch each day.
There was my broth while I was cooking it and then after I strained it- ready for consumption. The taste of the broth was OK. It was tolerable. I only had it once so far today. As soon as I finish writing this I am going to have some more.
In the past I have had great success with making tea from fresh ginger and lemon. I have even thrown some garlic in, but that didn’t taste too good! I didn’t have any ginger on hand today though, hence the alternative broth. Hope it works!!
It is Wednesday, 2 days later, and I feel 100% better. Really! Was it the broth? I have no idea! It probably helped that I finally went out today after being stuck in the house for a few days and the weather was beautiful. (and by beautiful I mean that it was over 40!) So, this was not at all scientific, but the next time I am sick I will definitely give this broth another try.
